Wenlan Junior Middle School was named in Mr. Fan Wenlan's honor, who was a renowned historian in Marxism and founder of socialist history. As an interface for international communications in Shaoxing, the school has drawn full attention from the society. Guided under the philosophy of "dignified demeanors, intellectual instructions, healthy life ", the teachers work diligently so as to cultivate elite students with outstanding academic performance and other multiple talents, which is highly spoken by the education commission and people from all works of life. The school has been granted the title of the significant body of research and education five times in a row and one of the first schools as the base of education research.

There are 102 teachers in the school, having strong records of, or potential for, excellence in teaching. Among them, 28 teachers possess senior teaching credentials, 42 are model teachers, pilots in their respective discipline and rising stars in the field. In the recent two years' competitions of basic professional skills and of teaching art organized by the Municipal Education Commission, 9 teachers were awarded the first place and 21 the second place. Three teachers' classes were credited with marked teaching art. Two teachers of the school among the five from the city were recommended to join the program of demonstrating innovative teaching methods. Ms. Zhao Zhuoqing gained the first prize twice in the national competition of Chinese teaching. Ms. Xiao Huaqin gained the first prize in the provincial competition of classes with marked teaching art.

In 2011, students made a record high achievement in the entrance examination to senior high schools. All students recommended from Wenlan were enrolled by the top two senior high schools in the city. 11 students were admitted to the Shaoxing Senior High through the school's self-organized precedent examination, which occupied the highest rate among the participant schools. Furthermore three students were admitted by No. 1 Middle School Branch. In total, 50 students were admitted to senior middle school prior to the formal examination. Amid students taking the entrance examination, Ding Cong's and Xu Yanqin's grades hit 704 (3^rd place in the city) and 700, besides 31 passed the recruitment standard line of No. 1 Middle School and 165 passeed the bottom recruitment line of high schools (The ratio is over 51%).

The school carries on education designed to raise the overall quality of students. The volleyball team, as a heritage, has been winning trophies all year round. In 2010 it obtained the first prize April in the Municipal Competition, and 4^th place in the Provincial Championship in May, took part in the provincial volleyball game for teenagers, got the 7^th place and 8^th place of the younger group and elder group in the Provincial Games in August, and female team acquired the gold medal and prize of high dignity in the Municipal Games in October. In 2011, the female team again won the champions in the municipal volleyball game in April and in the municipal invitational tournament. Besides the badminton team won the second place for the male and fourth place for the female in the municipal middle school students’ competition. The school focuses on education of psychological health, employing a national level-2 counselor and a level-3 counselor. In fact, the first play on psychological health was staged in November, 2010, which was written, directed and acted by the students and teachers themselves.

      The collective efforts of the administrators to advance system reform and the consistent passion from the faculty members and students has accomplished astonishingly so that the school was bestowed dozens of high praises, ranging from the national advanced body of psychological health education to the school with outstanding achievements on moral education.
